The Durrer Committee and the municipality of Amsterdam commissioned Lucien den Arend to make a proposal for a sculpture commemorate Professor D. Durrer (1918-1984), the reputable Dutch cardiologist.
On May 28 1986 Her Royal Highness Princess Juliana unveiled the memorial.
